Frequently Asked Questions About BioSpear:

BioSpear Antimicrobial Protectant vs. BioSpear Sanitizing Spray

Our BioSpear Antimicrobial Surface Protectant is a water soluble molecule that kills bacteria, mold and fungus. It is also effective against certain viruses. Offering Ongoing Protection for up to 90 days.

Our BioSpear Sanitizing Spay includes our BioSpear Antimicrobial Surface Protectant A Quarentary “Quat” Sanitizer. Offering the benefit of a Sanitizer combined with Ongoing Protection into one convenient formula available in Spray and Wipes.

How do BioSpear products work?

When it dries the active ingredient forms a odorless, colorless, positively charged polymer that forms a covalent bond either to hard or soft surfaces. When a microorganism comes in contact with the treated surface, the Quaternary amine “spear” punctures the cell membrane and a small electrical charge “shocks” the cell. Since nothing is transferred to the now dead cell, the antimicrobial doesn’t lose strength and the “spear’’ is ready for the next cell to contact it.

Why should I use BioSpear ?

In the media there are countless stories about microbes or infection or microbial mutation or the growing ineffectiveness of antibiotics. This is because infection is the No.1 cause of death worldwide. 25 years ago 80% of infection was controlled by antibiotics. Today less than 50% are controllable. Superbug mutations caused by antibiotic over use and disinfectants are becoming more and more prevalent. Also little known facts like mould is more lethal than asbestos and is more common and also 80% of infections are spread by human touch. Bio-spear helps protect from this threat in a safe, non-toxic, environmentally friendly and cost effective way. A recent report in the UK stated that your mobile phone was dirtier than a toilet seat. One treatment with BioSpear Solves this problem or just use our wipes on a regular basis to keep your phone germ free.

What is the difference between BioSpear and other products?

BioSpear products are powered by the same powerful quaternary molecule that delivers bacteriostatic protection to most surfaces. This means you can get the persistent BioSpear bacteriostatic action without any change to your cleaning regime or method. BioSpear products are designed for everyday sanitizing and cleaning use. When applied to a clean sanitized surface, our BioSpear Antimicrobial Surface Protectant will provide up to 90 days of bacteriostatic protection. This means a room can fogged or sprayed and once dry you will have ongoing protection for up to 90 days between your normal cleanings. Although this type of cleaning technology sounds truly amazing, it actually touches your life every day and you may not even know it. The same powerful BioSpear technology is used all over the world in manufactured products that most people use everyday. This includes odor resistant clothing, antimicrobial items such as mousepads and medical devices, it is even used to make paint resistant to mold and mildew. At BioSpear we have found a way to bring this technology to the general public and put it to use in your everyday life.

Where can I use BioSpear products?

BioSpear can be used anywhere a normal sanitizing spray or other product can be used, either at home, nurseries, churches, transportation hubs, medical facilities, the office or any commercial environment. It can also be used in manufacturing processes to add anti microbial activity to a product. It can be used in kitchens but only for surfaces that do not come in direct contact with food preparation. It can also be used in bathrooms, living areas, chairs, tables, virtually all touchpoints and even on clothing and fabrics.

How is BioSpear applied?

The RTU can be applied using trigger sprays, foggers, or pump up sprayers – just apply to clean surface and let it dry. The cleaning spray and wipes can be used like you normally would use any other product – just give it some dwell time. The laundry additive can be added to a rinse cycle in a washing machine or you can use a bucket to treat clothing, shoes etc, It can also be dosed in commercial washing facilities. Just follow the simple instructions on the packaging.

How can I become a BioSpear distributor/certified applicator?

You can contact our sales department and we will send you what you need. Please use the contact form on this site.

Can the product be used on porous and non porous surfaces?

Yes – It can be used on all surfaces and on fabrics so you can protect your clothes as well.

What does bacteriostatic mean?

Bac-te-ri-o-static Adj. The prevention of the further growth of bacteria.

How Toxic Is BioSpear?

BioSpear consumer products have an EPA Category IV Toxicity rating which is defined as: Toxicity Category IV is Practically non-toxic and not an irritant. Citric Adic coated on sour gummi candy is also rated at a Toxicity Category IV. When applied and dried, BioSpear is very safe and does not leach chemicals. See product label safety and disposal requirements for specific details. Most consumer sanitizing products on store shelves are rated at a Toxicity Category II or III.

Wikipedia:  “The four toxicity categories, from one to four are:

  • Toxicity category I is Highly toxic and Severely irritating,
  • Toxicity category II is Moderately toxic and Moderately irritating,
  • Toxicity category III is Slightly toxic and Slightly irritating,
  • Toxicity category IV is Practically non-toxic and not an irritant.”

BioSpear in a liquid form is toxic to fish and appropriate care should be taken.

BioSpear should not be drank or consumed. See product label emergency requirements for specific details.

Frequently Asked Questions About AEGIS Microbe Sheild:

BioSpear Contains ÆGIS Microbe Shield

BioSpear Contains ÆGIS Microbe Shield

What Is ÆGIS Microbe Shield?

Mold, mildew, bacteria, fungi, yeasts. Visible and invisible, beneficial and deadly but always present. The ÆGIS Microbe Shield Program provides protection and safe, effective solutions to microbial contamination. With the ÆGIS Microbe Shield Program you can solve existing problems (even after flooding and other catastrophic events) or can prevent problems from happening.

The key is the unique ÆGIS Microbe Shield Technology. In contrast to the conventional weapons you use in the unending battle with microbial contamination (sanitizers, disinfectants, bleach and biocides), it is odorless, durable, professionally applied – and effective. Even more important, it has nearly 30 years of safe use solving problems in virtually every type of building and on a broad array of consumer and healthcare products.

The active ingredient in the ÆGIS Microbe Shield products forms a colourless, odourless, positively charged polymer that molecularly bonds to the treated surface. You could think of it as a layer of electrically charged swords. When a microorganism comes in contact with the treated surface, the C-18 molecular sword punctures the cell membrane and the electrical charge shocks the cell. Since nothing is transferred to the now dead cell, the antimicrobial doesn’t lose strength and the sword is ready for the next cell to contact it.

What is the purpose of the silane portion of the molecule?

Silanes are extremely efficient bonding agents that can be coupled to other molecules and then used to permanently bond those molecules to a target surface.

Our antimicrobial silane modifies virtually any surface and transforms it into a material that will not support microbial growth.

Are the ÆGIS Microbe Shield products quaternary compounds? The ÆGIS active ingredient is an organofunctional silane, and yes part of the molecule is a quaternary compound. Unlike traditional quats, which have a limited kill spectrum, the ÆGIS technology provides long-term protection and controls a wide range of microorganisms including bacteria, fungus, algae, and mold.

What is the difference between the ÆGIS Microbe Shield products and other antimicrobials on the market?

Conventional products penetrate living cells and kill by way of poisoning the organism or disrupting a vital life process. They are designed to act quickly and dissipate quickly. Most commercial antimicrobials used for treating surfaces do an adequate job of killing bacteria and fungi, although most have a limited range of effectiveness.

The ÆGIS technology takes a totally unique approach. It provides an effective initial microbial kill when applied, but, unlike the conventional methods, it also provides long-term control of growth on treated surfaces, often for the life of that surface. The surface itself is modified to make it antimicrobially active.

Against what types of bacteria is the ÆGIS Microbe Shield technology effective?

The ÆGIS Microbe Shield technology has a mode of action that involves a positive charge and is effective against all bacteria, plus fungus, algae, and mold. A representative list of microbes against which the ÆGIS Microbe Shield technology has been tested may be obtained by contacting us.

Will this technology adversely affect the skin or environment?

No. Since the antimicrobial is permanently bound to the surfaces it protects, it does not leach from the fabric to the skin or into the environment. Extensive toxicological testing shows the antimicrobial does not cross the skin barrier.

What biocide is used?

The ÆGIS active ingredient is 3-trimethoxysilylpropyloctade-cyldimethyl ammonium chloride. The application level can vary by substrate, but generally the level is approximately 0.25% of the antimicrobial’s active ingredient onto the weight of the substrate. As an example, one kg of active ingredient will treat 400kg of shoe liners. The most commonly used product is a 42% active material.

Does the biocide use a heavy metal?

No. The ÆGIS Microbe Shield products do NOT contain any heavy metals. Tin, arsenic, silver and copper are often used in other antimicrobials.

Do the ÆGIS products give off gases after application?

No. They do not volatilize, dissipate, or leach onto other surfaces or into the environment. The chemistry polymerizes where it is applied and forms a permanent bond that typically lasts for the life of the treated surface. Normal cleaning should not remove the treatment; although it can be abraded away.

How is the treatment applied?

The ÆGIS products are applied in aqueous solution and can be inserted into almost any wet process during manufacturing at the mill. They can also be applied to finished goods. The antimicrobial is easily integrated into most jet, pad, and batch processes. The antimicrobial is cationic so it mixes well with other cationic and nonionic finishes (most softeners) and performs well in the same bath.

How long does the treatment last?

Since the cured antimicrobial is nonvolatile, insoluble, and non-leaching, the treatment should last for the life of the treated surface. The life of a treated surface depends on a number of factors, not the least of which is surface preparation. If you treat a dirty or unstable surface, when the dirt comes off or the surface is disturbed, some of the antimicrobial will be removed with it. Abrasive or caustic (pH>10.5) cleaners will also shorten effective life.

Is there a test method to determine if the ÆGIS polymer is present?

Yes. The ÆGIS Shield is based on an active ingredient that, in most cases, can be easily detected. A simple method of detection is available to demonstrate the presence or absence of the treatment. Bromophenol Blue (BPB) stain testing clearly shows the presence of the ÆGIS Microbe Shield in a matter of minutes.

Why are the ÆGIS antimicrobial products so durable?

Because of their exceptional chemical bond (a covalent bond) the bonded polymer is neither soluble nor volatile. The unique bond results in the ÆGIS antimicrobial polymer becoming an integral part of the substrate.

Will its use result in ‘super bacteria’?

No. Adaptation studies show that microbes do not adapt to the ÆGIS Microbe Shield and no ‘Zone of Inhibition’ develops.

What kinds of products use the ÆGIS Microbe Shield technology?

The ÆGIS Microbe Shield protects a large number and variety of products from odor, deterioration and contamination including medical, buildings and textiles.

BioSpear Technology

BioSpear

BioSpear is a revolutionary long-lasting antimicrobial solution. Our nanotechnology starts to work as soon as the treated surface dries (3-5 minutes). BioSpear bonds to the surface and forms a field of nano-sized standing spears, hundreds of times smaller than a human hair. Invisible to all but the microscope. You cannot see them, or feel them. When a micro-organism comes into contact with the treated surface, it is pulled onto the carbon spears. Once the cell wall is pierced, it is shocked and the cell explodes automatically cleaning the spear for the next microbe. Since nothing is transferred to the cell, the spear is not diminished and it continues on protecting against microbial activity 24/7 for up to 90 days.

BioSpear has undergone extensive independent laboratory and field testing and has a long history of safe use. Cleaner, safer, and enhances even the most meticulous cleaning and sanitation protocols and procedures. It provides an effective bio-film barrier which gives anti-microbial and anti-fungal protection.

BioSpear products are EPA tested and registered, and EU-EA registered.

How to use BioSpear

  • BioSpear can be applied from a trigger sprayer bottle, pump sprayer, a fogger, or wipes on surfaces.
  • BioSpear comes in a consumer-ready to use formula in various size bottles or in a concentrated formula, which professional applicators can dilute.
  • Once applied and dried, BioSpear will continue to work for up to 90 days.

BioSpear must be applied to clean surfaces

BioSpear must be applied to clean and sanitized surfaces to be most effective. You simply spray or fog onto a surface giving light even covering ( if it starts to run you are applying too much) and let it dry for at least 5 minutes – after that, you can wipe off any residual moisture with a soft cloth, or let it air dry. You are then protected – it is as simple as that.

BioSpear in fabric use for laundry

BioSpear works on laundry too. When applying to laundry, BioSpear can be introduced into the rinse cycle of your machine. If you have a commercial washing machine please contact us for information and quantities. Home laundry use 6 oz of ready to use in a medium-sized load (around 10 pounds of clothing).

How Does BioSpear Technology Work

BioSpear creates an invisible nanoscopic protective barrier on both hard and soft surfaces. This barrier destroys microbes & bacteria mechanically instead of chemically so there is no risk of mutation or creation of superbugs.

When BioSpear is applied to a surface the molecules polymerize to form fields of nanoscopic carbon spears. These spears have the ability to attract microbes onto their spikes which then pierce the cell wall and deliver a mild microscopic shock – this combined attack destroys the material inside the cell rendering it inert and unable to replicate.

Think of a microbe as a soap bubble landing on a spear of grass. BioSpear is even more powerful in that, BioSpear has a positive charge which magnetically draws the negative charged microbe onto the spear as it lands to hasten its destruction. The resulting explosion then clears the spear to kill the next microbe.

Unlike traditional chemical sanitizing methods that only work while they are wet, Bio-Spear continues to protect 24/7 for up to 90 days. BioSpear protects you and your environment against bacteria, mold, fungus, and soft cell viruses. BioSpear is effective on both gram + and gram – bacteria.

BioSpear is not microbe specific as it delivers a mechanical kill rather than a chemical kill to eliminate microbes with a soft protein outer shell. The Spear in BioSpear kills with physics, mechanically puncturing the microbe and exploding it. BioSpear does not create mutations such as MRSA – because there are no Zones of Inhibitions – areas where a microbe can develop resistance (superbugs). Problems created by products that kill microbes chemically. Furthermore, most chemical products only kill when they are wet and in contact for several minutes. When the surface dries, they no longer work. BioSpear is effective after it dries, and continues to defend against microbes for up to 90 days without the use of chemicals.

Please see the specific list of viruses, bacteria, fungi, and algae that BioSpear is known to be effective against on the Product Info page.
